Captain Mark Turner grew up in a small village in Leicestershire, England, before moving to the US over 20 years ago. When Mark first moved to the US he lived in Santa Cruz, California where he learned to sail & would go fishing for salmon and halibut in the Monterey Bay. Later he moved to Florida where his passion for being on the water & sailing lead him to become a sailing instructor. He discovered the Virgin Islands around 15 years ago and since that first visit always dreamed of living the island lifestyle. Finally in 2015 he made that dream a reality. He is really excited to share his passion for sailing and the island way of life with guests aboard Mariann.

Mark is a U.S. Coast Guard Captain, RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore, open water certified scuba diver, and a U.S. Certified Sailing Instructor. He enjoys traveling to new places and meeting people, making new friends along the way. He enjoys being on the water more than being on land, so its no surprise that his favorite sports other than sailing are wake boarding, scuba diving, surfing, and kiteboarding. On land, he also enjoys watching his favorite football team Leicester City.

Mark's sailing experience includes sailing the Atlantic, Pacific, Caribbean, and the Mediterranean. His favorite sailing grounds, however, are right here in the Virgin Islands. His local knowledge of hidden places and local hot spots enables him to take his guests to the best places throughout the islands.

First Mate/Chef Adriane joins Mariann as a highly regarded chef working in the charter yacht industry.

As a child Adriane spent years living between Florida and coastal Massachusetts with her family. The love of travel came at a young age along with the love of the ocean and her confidence at sea. Her family had different vessels over the years and she went to summer camp on the educational schooner The Spirit of Massachusetts.

Adriane learned how to sail in the beautiful Puget Sound of Washington state and soon realized she would rather sail in the sun than the rain. She moved to the U.S Virgin Islands and got a job on a day sailboat. After several years of lovely island living she travelled to Antigua for Antigua Race Week and was surprised to learn there were non-race boats with permanent crew. That changed everything. She went on her first big delivery and has been working on traveling boats ever since.

Over the years Adriane discovered the galley and the adventure of cooking at sea. She learned the culinary language and her skills grew while provisioning all over the world. As a traveler she always explores the local cuisines, and takes courses to learn how to bring these flavors to her galley.

Mark and Adriane Cant wait to host and wow you with all the Virgin Islands have to offer.

ALTERNATE CHEF: Krystal Clarke

Krystal is our lead visionary and mastermind behind Foodsaucy chefs and El Jangueo Guesthouse. She has 15+ years of experience, including assisting in new restaurant openings, operating her first gastropub, and many successful Pop-Up’s. Krystal’s culinary education came from countless hours working along side Master Chefs, at various Michelin restaurants, and a life long culinary pilgrimage.

The beginning of her career is divided between Boston, where she fell in love with all aspects of service and hospitality, and California, where she learned the importance of value & sustainable operation practices.

After years of working her way up from the bottom, slaving alongside Master Chefs, she opened her first gastropub in Long Beach, CA. There she had one of the first farm to table restaurants, and was a large contributor to the California Homemade Food Act and booming Long Beach restaurant scene. When the time came, she released all her projects into the world, sold everything, and bought a one way ticket.

The following 4 years were spent working and studying in Portugal & Spain. On various farms, vineyards, villas, bakeries, and Michelin restaurants. While living in Barcelona, Chef Krystal assisted in the openings of 5 pop-up restaurants through out Spain, alongside the province’s top Michelin stared chefs. As she sought out mentors to learn from, she also studied the Spanish language & completed her Maritime certifications. She split her time between the pop up’s and working as a freelance luxury yacht chef to the “rich and famous.”

With a vision in mind, Chef Krystal relocated to San Juan, Puerto Rico. She found a young and passionate culinary scene, full of opportunity, as well as, a need for entrepreneurs, progressives, and agricultural enthusiasts. She discovered a lost world of lush farmlands, fresh water springs, and a community ready for the future.

Chef Krystal specializes in global cuisine, classically trained French, yet greatly influenced by her travels.

Her food is light, eclectic, fresh, vibrant, sustainable, creative… Passionate.

Her specialties include all regions of the United States, Mexican, Californian, French, Italian, Spanish, German, South East Asian, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Peruvian, and South /Central American. She has studied nutrition and a variety of health-related restrictions, she herself is Paleo, enjoys vegan & vegetarian diets, and keeps a very active lifestyle- kiterforlife!

“There was a time where our friends and family came together to share in the cooking and dining experience as a lifestyle and not an occasion, I hope to revive this on your charter.”
